SIFU TROYON WILLIAMS

Sifu Troyon Williams was born Sept. 17th , 1968, the youngest of three siblings. Sifu Williams was very shy and timid young boy. While he had friends, he mostly kept to himself and would spend his time reading books, watching television and avoiding confrontations. Sifu Williams’s first experience in the Martial Arts was with his cousin a “National Taekwondo Champion” who would often teach him self-defense techniques. However because of his lack of confidence he never took Martial Arts seriously. All that would change when at the age of 13, Sifu Williams was brutally attacked by a neighborhood gang. He told no one of this incident, yet swore he would never be a victim again. He began seeking Martial Arts knowledge from whoever would teach him no matter what style.
Finally, in 1983 he joined the JOW GA KUNG FU ASSOCIATION at 740 6th St. NW, headed by Master Dean Chin. studying primarily under Master Deric Mims as well as recieving instruction from Master Eugene Mackie. He trained hard, often being the first to arrive at the school and the last to leave. So determined was he to learn that he would walk a mile and a half from his home to the nearest metro station and would then walk 10 blocks to get to the school. In time Sifu Williams excelled in Jow Ga and began to represent the school in demonstrations, lion dance performances, local and national competitions. Though Sifu Williams only competed for a short time, he won several championships and in 1994, he was ranked among the top five competitors in the country by the United States of America Wushu Kung Fu Federation.
Sifu Williams first started teaching Jow Ga at the age of 18, at the sixth street school. He often had students much older than he, which proved to be very ackward for both sides. However in time, these students quickly realized his talent in Kung Fu, and had no problem learning from someone so young. Since then Sifu Williams has taught Kung Fu at many different place, University of Md., Howard University and in 1992 he traveled to Krakow, Poland to teach a 10 day seminar on Jow Ga Kung Fu.
