GRAND MASTER
CHAN MAN CHUENG
Grand Master Chan Man Chueng was born November 5th, 1929 in Guangzhou, China. He started practicing Jow Ga at the young age of 11, when his father Chan Jen a student of Jow Ga Grandmaster Jow Biu took him to the Jow Ga School just a short walk from his family home in Dong Fong Village, Gow Dong district of Guangzhou. He trained Jow Ga Kung Fu and Lion Dance diligently until at the age of 17 he followed his master Jow Biu to Hong Kong to establish schools. There he would assist his sifu at night and make a living in a fish market during the day.
A few years following his move to Hong Kong at the age of 20, Chan Man Chueng started a career as a Martial Arts choreographer, when he helped one of his students break into the movie industry. Because of his great skill in Kung Fu it wasn’t long before Chan Man Chueng was cast in several movies himself. Playing along side such famous actors as Shek Kin(Mr. Han of Enter the Dragon). Chan Man Chueng first love however was promoting Jow Ga. At the young age of 24 Chan Man Chueng established a school in the northern part of Hong Kong in Jian Kang (Healthy Village) where his popularity grew as a Kung Fu and Lion Dance Instructor. It was around this time that Master Dean Chin started studying with him.
At the age of 28 Chan Man Chueng was hired as martial arts instructor for the Li Zheng Wu Friendship Center. During his time at the center Chan Man Chueng turned out many great Martial Artists and top notch Lion Dance Team. Chan Man Chueng was one of the first masters to form an all Female Lion Dance Team. Chan Man Chueng taught at the Friendship Center until the age of 36, he then turned over his teaching duties to Haung Gen Liang.
Over the years Grand Master Chan Man Chueng has held posistions with several different Associations. For four years he was an advisor for the US-Hong Kong Friendship Association. He was also apppointed as Chief Instructor of Jow Biu Chinese Boxing Association, he was also the Associaitons Chairman and now serves as Vice-Chairman

Although Chan Man Chuengs boxing technique is very powerful. Many of his classmates in Hong Kong would often comment on his great strength, and he is most famous for his expertise in the Kwan Do. He is best known however for his great skill in the Jow Ga Lion Dance. He would spend many hours perfecting his technique in Lion Dancing. He believes that a good lion dancer should show and combine all the Lions emotions, happiness, fear, saddness, anger. Because of his great skill in the Lion Dance, people would often refer to him as “Lion King”. At the age of 72 the Grand Master still shows as much enthusiasm for Jow Ga Kung Fu and Lion Dancing as he did when he was 22. He treates all his students and grandstudents like family and never hesitates impart his wisdom and vast knowledge of Kung Fu.
